Fresh Watercolor Birthday

I’m part of a swapping group called #imbringingbirthdaysback and I needed to make a card to send to one of the participants in Canada. Since it’s out of the country, it’s best to try and stay away from bulky cards. I decided to make a watercolor background and stamp the flower from Artistically Asian right onto it. It’s so far out of my comfort zone since I am all about dimension and layers. I wish I could merge these two cards into one – I love the bolder watercolor background, but like the look of the other one with the Copper Trim wrapped around 3 times. I stepped it up with a few random In Color Enamel Shapes and some Wink of Stella on the flower. I also decided to heat emboss the sentiment with Copper Embossing Powder on the lower right corner, but it’s difficult to see in the picture.  Can you spot the new products?  I’m super excited about all the new goodies!  I also love this color combo of Flirty Flamingo, Fresh Fig, and Copper. I think I’ll be using this combo again!

Softly Falling, Beautiful You

Today we take a dramatic turn from the last two whimsical posts. There are some people I know that are going through trying times right now with physical pain. One of them is my little Hunter Bunter. She’s dealing with a knee injury that happened during a soccer game.  She had looked through the Occasions catalog when I first received it and she really liked the Beautiful You set. It has sweet sentiments and lovely brush artwork. When she saw there were new Watercolor Pencils that included her favorite colors Pacific Point and Pumpkin Pie, she insisted we needed them. My little enabler! I am glad that I bought them. The texture of the pencils is smooth and perfect with the Blender Pens.  I wanted a subtle background and the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder seemed like a good fit, as it appears to be tiny raindrops falling. And with that, I hope a card will help cheer my Huntley up, if only for a moment.

Best Birds Watercolor Quad

I wanted to make a couple Birthday cards and Sympathy cards. The Best Birds stamp set is perfect for either.  As I was looking at cardstock scraps, this quad of colors really spoke to me. They are so pretty together and work beautifully with the Best Birds bundle on page 53 of the Annual Catalog.

I stamped the bird in Staz-On Jet Black on Shimmery White cardstock.  In real life, you can still see the shimmer on the bird through the ink. The Aqua Painters make painting a dream since the water is  contained in the handle.

Peachy “Orange Peel” Technique

I have been so anxious to share this card with all of you! So, this is the “Orange Peel” technique that Stampin’ Up shared at Convention:

  1. Stamp your design on Watercolor Paper.
  2. Using a Stampin’ Spritzer, lightly spritz with plain water. Just 2 or 3 full spritzes unless you want the colors to run more.
  3. Pour on Clear Embossing Powder and shake off the excess. Since we’re covering the entire piece, there is no need for the Embossing Buddy.
  4. Using the Heat Tool on the high setting, melt the embossing powder. Hold the heat tool at an angle and you can see the ripples forming!

Shimmery Watercolor Butterfly

I decided to try something different today. I watercolored Flirty Flamingo ink onto Shimmery White cardstock. I used an Aqua Painter to first cover the entire piece of cardstock in water.  Then I brushed the ink in a sweeping motion onto the cardstock. After it dried, I die cut the butterflies. They turned out exactly as I hoped!  If you decide to give it a try, be sure to use a shim for your Big Shot sandwich – the Shimmery White must be slightly thinner than the standard cardstock. My sandwich was (from bottom to top): Magnetic Platform, Precision Base Plate, cardstock, die, shim (scrap piece of cardstock), standard cutting pad.

Shimmery Butterfly

I wish you could see it in real life. You can see the shimmer on the whole butterfly – as if it was covered in Wink of Stella. Here’s a close up that might help a little:

So, what do you think? I’ll definitely use this technique again!

Winkin’ at the March Club Card

My super fun group The emBOSSing Queens met for our stamping club this evening. I was so excited to share the gorgeousness of Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush with them – it is beyond description!  I have been seeing a lot of cards with this layout, so please don’t think I’m taking credit for it. My Pinterest board gives it away!  This card has the stamp embossed in gold on watercolor paper, then I used the Aqua Painter medium brush to watercolor in Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive. After those colors were dry, I went over it with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush.  I just love all the sentiments available in the Rose Wonder photopolymer stamp set, too. If there’s only one stamp set in the Occasions catalog that you can afford to buy, definitely make it this one! Be sure to stamp your photopolymer stamps on a Stampin’ Pierce Mat. That will give it the extra cushion that photopolymer stamps don’t have (if you look at clear mount stamps and wood mount stamps, you’ll notice there’s a foam pad).  What you’ll get is a nice, crisp image.  We end the evening with a matching envelope with the leaf outline on it. It’s a nice touch that brings it all together.
