Stitched Lace Die & a Butterfly

Sorry about my absence on here…I had a visit from an awesome person that I don’t get to see very often. His arrival even trumped me opening an Annual Catalog pre-order box!  Today’s card is so simple, but looks stunning with the new Stitched Lace Dies that I know you will want – and you can get your hands on them when the catalog goes live on June 4th. Or, for even more fun, mark your calendar for my Annual Catalog Kick-Off Open House on Monday, June 17th and you can see it in real life. I’ll have more details for you coming up.

So back to this die set. It has one piece that is 5 7/8” x 4 5/16”, which will cover a complete card front. Then, there is an awesome second piece in which you can cut the scalloped shape shorter, either vertically or horizontally. When I made this card, the row I die cut out became a pretty doily style strip that I’ll use on another card. Oh my! And it even has a coordinating stamp set!

This card also uses a new 2019-2021 In Color called Rococo Rose. (Hunter said it sounded like a rapper’s name…hahahaha!) I love how soft and muted it is. So pretty in real life. (Please note the ink color and cardstock color are the same. Unfortunately, I am terrible at taking pictures. I definitely need Sydney’s camera skills.)  I also used the Butterfly Duet Punch and coordinating Butterfly Gala stamp set that were introduced in the 2019 Occasions Catalog. Perfect Simplicity!

Watercolor Wishes Quick and Simple

I decided to dust off a couple retired products – we all have them and we all need to use them more! A couple years ago, there was a beautiful card kit called Watercolor Wishes. I just love the stamp set and knew the “You’re Amazing” sentiment was the perfect size for the 1″ slot I created. This layout is super easy – just cut your top layer piece 1″ shorter than a standard layer. Then, put it in the trimmer at whatever angle suits you and give it a cut. Glue it down with the end borders even and…TADA! A quick, easy way to add interest to your card!  Isn’t this Designer Series Paper just adorable? It’s only available for a couple more days – free with a $50 minimum purchase – during Sale-a-Bration!

The other dusty items on these cards are the Brights Collection Buttons. OMGoodness…I have no idea how old they must be! Anyone care to guess? I topped the buttons with some Whisper White Baker’s Twine tied in a triple bow. I first made a standard bow, but the twine was a bit too small for the scale of the buttons.

Lasting Lily Wishing You Well

Tomorrow is the big day! All the items I’ve been sharing with you from the 2019 Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-Bration Brochure will be available to you! Today’s sneak peek is the Sale-a-Bration stamp set Lasting Lily. This 16 piece photopolymer set is part of Stampin’ Up!’s DistINKtive stamps line, which have the unique ability to apply color in differing degrees so one stamp shows many shades. They are so pretty! Most items in the Sale-a-Bration brochure are free with a $50 product purchase. But because this is a larger stamp set, you can earn it with a $100 purchase. It is so worth it – there are two different lilies with stems and leaves as well as 10 sentiments! I will be using this set for my Easter cards this year.

Best Birds Poignant Thank You

My sweet daughter wanted to make a thank you card for a special person in her life (no, not me this time). It didn’t take her very long to choose the Best Birds set and she knew she wanted to use the Stampin’ Blends. The sentiment is from a retired set, but it is such a poignant one that was perfect for the occasion. The inside reads, “Always kind, Always giving, Always there”. I know this brought tears to the recipient’s eyes. Just lovely. It is so beautiful, I told her I was sneaking a photo and was going to post it on my blog. If only you could see it in real life…

Thankful for Pleasant Pheasants

Today’s card features another new stamp set in the upcoming Holiday catalog, which will be available to order from beginning September 5, 2018. Pheasants are dear to my heart, as they remind me of my dad. Back in 2009, Stampin’ Up! released a stamp set called Autumn Days, which also featured a pheasant. I bought the set to make my dad’s Birthday card with it. Unfortunately, he passed away a few weeks before his Birthday. I made him a Missing You card and placed it in his casket. You can see that card here. So, as you can imagine, as soon as Hunter and I saw this new Pleasant Pheasants stamp set, she looked at me and said I had to get it…in my dad’s memory. So, dad, this card is for you, too.

Keep reading for a couple of techniques featured on this card.

Thankful for Pleasant Pheasants

Background Block Stamping With Markers
I know for myself that it can be difficult to color in images that are realistic, so I tried a technique that is new-to-me. This was super easy – as you can see by the steps below. I used Block E and scribbled Stampin’ Write markers on it. Then I spritzed it about 8 to 10 times with water. I then placed it directly on to the Whisper White cardstock. I wasn’t able to capture it on a photo, but when you place it on the cardstock, you can actually see the color absorbing right into the cardstock. It doesn’t take very long to dry, either. Just keep in mind that the cardstock will bow a little.

Customizing Pearls
I adore the new Braided Linen Trim, but I needed a little something extra. I grabbed my Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends marker and colored directly onto the pearls with the brush end. Since Blends are alcohol markers, they dry almost instantly and the color won’t rub off.  Another excuse for me to buy more Blends colors so I can have pearls of any color I need!

Rooted in Blissful Nature

There are still a few days left for the Buy 3 Get 1 Free promotion on select Designer Series Paper (see list at the end of the post). I just opened my pack of the Nature’s Poem paper and it is so gorgeous! I am thrilled that Blackberry Bliss was brought out of retirement to become a core color – the richness of it pairs perfectly with lighter colors. These double-sided papers are the perfect complement to the Rooted in Nature bundle. What’s super fun about the dies in this are the inclusion of embossing dies. Take a closer look at the die cut leaves on the card. I ran the cardstock through the Big Shot twice – once to cut the outline and a second time with an embossing die for texture. You definitely need the Big Shot Embossing Mats for this card. Wonderful effect! This card is the one I made as my thank you to my club members. I included a card in each of their orders. I always want them to know I’m thankful for them!
