Nautical This n That

Today’s clean, crisp card is brought to you by a wide variety of Stampin’ Up products – Paper Pumpkin (the monthly subscription service), current and retired items. If you know me, then you know who will be receiving this card. The images are so razor sharp, which is one of the reasons I adore the quality of Stampin’ Up’s stamps.  This card also features all punches and no die cutting. You might be able to glimpse a bit of shadow in the middle of the banner. I used a Bone Folder and curled it a little and then used Mini Dimentionals at each end. And one more thing…aren’t those mini anchors just the cutest? An All-American card for my All-American Sailor!

Tropical Catalog Kick-Off Party Success!

I had an absolute BLAST at my Catalog Kick-Off Party yesterday and I think everyone there enjoyed it, too! I had 13 lovely ladies come and do a make-n-take, check out samples, and enjoy some beyond-delicious Tropical Fruit Salad (see BONUS ROUND below). As soon as I spied the Tropical Escape Suite on pages 120-121 in the Annual Catalog, I just KNEW that was going to be my theme this year. Below are two samples of the cards everyone made. They were able to choose the DSP card layer and DSP square behind the die cut. So much fun!

Tropical Kick Off Party

Cardstock:  Blushing Bride, Granny Apple Green, Shaded Spruce, Soft Sea Foam, Whisper White
Specialty Paper: Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper Stack
Ink:  Shaded Spruce

BONUS ROUND!
Here’s the recipe for my delicious Tropical Fruit Salad I served at the party…everyone raved over it!

TROPICAL FRUIT SALAD

11 mandarin oranges, sectioned
2 cups strawberries, sliced
1 pineapple, cut into bite-size chunks
5 kiwi, sliced
3 mangoes, cut into bite-size chunks

Citrus Poppy Seed Dressing
1 mandarin orange
1 medium lemon
1 lime
1/4 cup agave
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds

Zest the orange, lemon and lime with a zester. Add to small bowl. Cut each in half and squeeze the juice into the measuring cup. (You should get about 1/2 cup juice).  Add agave, ginger and poppy seeds to juice mixture and whisk until combined.  Set aside or place in the refrigerator if serving later.

Prepare remaining fruit and place in a large bowl. Pour dressing on top of fruit about 30 minutes before serving. Gently toss to coat.

Serve and enjoy!
Makes about 12 cups

Flirty Peekaboo Peacock

I am so in love with Brusho Crystal Colours – they are so vibrant! I used Red and Yellow to make this gorgeous background. To work with the Brusho powder, I taped the watercolor paper down using Washi Tape onto a piece of cardboard. It helps to keep it from curling too much from all the water and when it’s all dry and you remove the Washi tape, it makes a beautiful border. Using the Aqua Painter, I covered the entire piece in plain water. Then I sprinkled on the Brusho powders and spritzed water on to move it around a bit. I love the embossed silver on it, too. For the peacock’s tail, I used sponge daubers to put Peekaboo Peach on the bottom and Flirty Flamingo on the top, being careful to blend slightly for continuous color. After I added the body in Melon Mambo, I fussy cut the peacock out to pop it up with Dimensionals. This color combo is awesome together!
