Happy Acorns

I have had a whirlwind October. I was able to visit my niece and her family in Pennsylvania. From there, we went to upstate New York to visit my son. We decided to add in a day trip to Vermont and Massachusetts. It was a much needed vacation. The one thing I forgot, though, is that I always sneak and leave a card for my son to find after we’ve said our goodbyes. There were some items I needed to mail to him after we got back home, though, so I made sure to make him one. First I made the top card with So Saffron. Hunter advised me that it was a little too feminine and that I needed to make it with a shade of blue instead. Hence, the two cards you see. I love this DSP…it’s too bad it’s retired and I’m almost out of it. Those super cute little acorns crack me up!

English Garden Simple Sympathy

It was a sad day at work on Monday when my coworkers and I found out about the death of a Board member. He was a sweet man and he will not be forgotten.  I made a sympathy card to take to work tomorrow for the Board members and staff to sign for his daughter. I wanted to emphasize the sentiment, so I went minimal with the lovelies. The English Garden Designer Series Paper is beautiful for this card, as it is a print copy from actual hand-painted work that an artist created specifically for Stampin’ Up.  Most of the products I used are retired, but it is easy to CASE this card with the layout. Rest in Heaven, Ben.

Flourishing Sympathies

I unfortunately needed to make a few sympathy cards. I decided to make all 3 with the same layout. All the stunning dies are from the Flourish Thinlits collection.  They are beautifully detailed and the Big Shot Die Brush works wonders with removing all the little cut out pieces. The Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder creates a nice, subtle background that doesn’t detract from the flowers and sentiment.  I mixed up the color schemes on each one. Which do you like the most?

Manly Missionary Birthday

There is a woman at my church who is in charge of Missions. She is responsible for not only teaching us and updating us on what is going on in the Church of the Nazarene mission field, but she also keeps in contact with both retired and current missionaries assigned to our district.  She asked if I would make the Birthday and Anniversary cards for both families.  Of course, I am delighted to!  The first card I was tasked to create is a masculine Birthday card.  I used to spend HOURS trying to figure out what to do for “guy cards” (that’s what I like to call them). Fret no more! Stampin’ Up has some wonderful masculine sets – including The Wilderness Awaits, which is the fox you see on the outside, and Wetlands, which I used for the inside sentiment. I like to keep the guy cards simple – a little bit of Linen Thread and nice texture from an embossing folder.  Using Stamping Sponges allows for soft, subtle color for my wild fox.

Kalyn’s Shaker Card!

Yay! Kalyn received the card, so now I can share it with everyone! A super fun Shaker Card! I had a blast making this – who doesn’t love an interactive card that moves when you shake it?!? I decided to go with a clean look of a white card base and a little border of color. The diagonal stripes lend a little whimsy that is perfect for this layout. The Layering Squares framelits work like a charm to make the open frame.  And Stampin’ Up just added Foam Adhesive Strips to their already wonderful line-up of adhesives. Let me tell you. These strips are so convenient! They are 9″ long and you just cut them to the length you need – no wasting!  And no cutting a bunch of dimensionals, either. This exclusive product is a must have – and you’re definitely going to see more shaker cards from me!
