Letter Board of Encouragement

I have been taking the opportunity of being home more to work on cards. Cards that I make specifically for special someones. And the special someone getting this card happens to be a High School Senior. I want to remind her that we see the sadness encapsulating all the young adults at this time. I want her to remember that she can hang in there, rise and shine, and that everything will be ok. I want her to know it’s alright to be sad. But it’s not the end…

Letter Board of Encouragement

Her special card is a play on a buckle card. The flap has the cup adhered to it and it tucks nicely into the right wing of the butterfly.  When you lift the cup to open the card, you see the secret message stamped underneath. And, of course, my card isn’t complete until I add a little Wink of Stella…and the butterfly was the perfect item to make sparkle.

Color Inspiration from Sydney Joy

I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday and happened upon a photo that an awesome photographer posted. Here’s the link to her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/kariizmaphotography/

Sydneys Inspiration Photo

As soon as I saw it, I thought out loud, “What a gorgeous color combination! I’m going to make a floral card in those colors!” (Yes I have permission from her to post her photo…if you don’t know, she’s my talented daughter.) Here’s the color palette, if you’d like to Pin it for future reference:Sydneys Color Palette

I decided to use lots of new products I recently purchased. There is a large magnolia suite in the Annual Catalog, but many people may not be aware that there is a smaller, coordinating one in the Experience Creativity Beginner’s Brochure called Magnolia Blooms. It’s geared towards people that are new to stamping, but that doesn’t mean avid stampers can’t use the products, too. Click here to see the brochure.

This inspiration and color palette just sings “wedding” to me, so I wanted to work in some vellum. I ran a layer piece through the die cutting machine with the Scripty 3D Embossing Folder. I die cut the gorgeous frame with the Petal Labels Dies out of Mint Macaron and the magnolia is colored with Stampin’ Blends markers. It was missing something from the Mint Macaron layer, so I asked Hunter what she thought it needed. Why do I even bother asking? Her answer for almost everything is to sponge it! So, that’s what I did. I love the extra texture from it. I finished it off with Pearl Basic Jewels colored with the Bronze and Petal Pink Blends and I decided to use the gorgeous Petal Pink Variegated Ribbon that retired from the Occasions Catalog in the spring…but I’ll bet there are lots of you that have it because it was a best-seller.

Pocket Full of Springtime Posies

I am in love with the soft lavender shade of the new In Color Purple Posy. I was saddened to find out that we currently are unable to order Purple Posy Classic Ink Pads or Ink Refills. I had to wait until the catalog release to order the color in the Stampin’ Blends alcohol ink Marker and Stampin’ Write Marker. I’m so thankful we can at least use these for coloring and stamping. I’m also thankful that Stampin’ Up is committed to bringing us top-notch, quality products and aren’t settling for anything subpar. I’m sure the manufacturer will get the ink pads and ink refills up to standard so we can then purchase them. In the meantime, it’s the old-fashioned way of stamping – using the Stampin’ Write Marker directly onto the stamp. I find the quality is just fine when using red rubber stamps. This is how I was able to stamp the sentiment on this card. I used the Stampin’ Blends Marker to color the Pearl Basic Jewels so they would match. I thought out of the box with the Scalloped Linen Ribbon and cut the Purple Posy edging away from the linen in the center. Look closely and you’ll see that the Basic Black layer has been dry embossed with the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder. I just love how the Purple Posy pops on the black background. And tell me again why I so rarely use the Springtime Impressions dies? So pretty!

Best Blue Birds Blends for an Anniversary

A friend asked me to make a card for her parents’ anniversary. She told me they liked birds and the color blue. As soon as she said that, I knew I’d be using the Best Birds stamp set and matching Birds & Blooms Thinlits dies. I just love using Stampin’ Blends with the bird images because they really make me feel like an artist. So easy to use and a beautiful blended effect. I decided to add some Wink of Stella to the birds, but I’m not sure you can see it. I used the Mango Melody Dark Blends marker on some small pearls for the flower centers. Everything is die cut out and glued down, with the birds adhered with Dimensionals for a little pop. I am very pleased with this card.

Flowing Fountain of Sympathy

Today’s card features a stamp set on page 41 in the upcoming 2019 Occasions Catalog. I have a feeling that this one may be overlooked by many people. It’s not bright and flashy. It a simple, sweet stamp set with lovely sentiments. I plan on using it for some upcoming #simplestamping projects. Stay tuned for more info on that.

And don’t forget that you can use the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers to color the Pearl Basic Jewels. It’s so nice just keeping a stock of both the Pearls as well as the Rhinestones and coloring them whenever I need matching embellishments.

Bushel of Healing Hugs

There’s a sweet lady I know that, unfortunately, needed surgery. Before I even sat down at my craft table to create her a card, I knew I wanted to use the Healing Hugs stamp set. I also knew I wanted the rose to be stamped in Blueberry Bushel. I was inspired by a bold card I had spotted online. I decided to pair it with a very pale green for the leaves to help intensify the already brilliant blue. I had just received the Tufted Dynamic Embossing Folder from my beautiful man in brown (UPS driver) earlier that day and thought it would be just lovely as the background texture.

Bushel of Healing Hugs

I colored the Pearl Basic Jewels with my Dark Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends marker. Usually I struggle to remove the jewels with my paper snips or paper piercer, trying to make sure the adhesive on the back comes off with the jewels and doesn’t stick to the paper backing. Let’s talk about this for just a moment. This time, I used the new Take Your Pick tool and it was a dream! This new multipurpose tool includes a piercer, stylus and putty to pick up small items…and a spatula! The spatula slipped right under my pearls and I am tickled pink! You simply MUST get one! Here’s a quick 3 minute YouTube video that shows all the bells and whistles:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nihh0cc81pU&feature=youtu.be

I hope you aren’t tired of this stamp set yet, because I am addicted to it! I just love coloring it with the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. The blending is so easy! This card features an awesome background impression that is achieved with the Tin Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder. It’s the perfect backdrop for this milk can of flowers. I am counting down the days until I can share pictures of the suite online!

Thankful for Pleasant Pheasants

Today’s card features another new stamp set in the upcoming Holiday catalog, which will be available to order from beginning September 5, 2018. Pheasants are dear to my heart, as they remind me of my dad. Back in 2009, Stampin’ Up! released a stamp set called Autumn Days, which also featured a pheasant. I bought the set to make my dad’s Birthday card with it. Unfortunately, he passed away a few weeks before his Birthday. I made him a Missing You card and placed it in his casket. You can see that card here. So, as you can imagine, as soon as Hunter and I saw this new Pleasant Pheasants stamp set, she looked at me and said I had to get it…in my dad’s memory. So, dad, this card is for you, too.

Keep reading for a couple of techniques featured on this card.

Thankful for Pleasant Pheasants

Background Block Stamping With Markers
I know for myself that it can be difficult to color in images that are realistic, so I tried a technique that is new-to-me. This was super easy – as you can see by the steps below. I used Block E and scribbled Stampin’ Write markers on it. Then I spritzed it about 8 to 10 times with water. I then placed it directly on to the Whisper White cardstock. I wasn’t able to capture it on a photo, but when you place it on the cardstock, you can actually see the color absorbing right into the cardstock. It doesn’t take very long to dry, either. Just keep in mind that the cardstock will bow a little.

Customizing Pearls
I adore the new Braided Linen Trim, but I needed a little something extra. I grabbed my Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends marker and colored directly onto the pearls with the brush end. Since Blends are alcohol markers, they dry almost instantly and the color won’t rub off.  Another excuse for me to buy more Blends colors so I can have pearls of any color I need!

The Joy of Sets – New Catalogue Blog Hop August 2018

Banner
I am so excited to participate in my first blog hop! There is a wonderful International group on Facebook called The Joy of Sets and everyone is welcome to join! You have hopped to my site from Alejandra Gomez’s and next up after me is Angie McKenzie’s. You can click on the arrows at the bottom of the blog post to continue on your hoppy way. This month’s topic is anything new from the 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up Annual Catalog. I have used two new stamp sets, one new color, one new ribbon and a new framelits set…such fun!

A coworker asked me to make a Birthday card for her friend…who just happens to be a Stampin’ Up demonstrator like me.  I know this lovely Birthday lady, as our daughters were on the same travel soccer team together a few years ago. As soon as I sat down to make a card, the creative juices flowed freely. This is the first time I inked up the Abstract Impressions stamp set and I am in love! It’s just so pretty!

JOS Abstract Details Outside
Below is a close up shot of the gorgeous Poppy Parade Mini Striped Ribbon…and as you look at the photo, perhaps you’ll notice the added stitching on the Flirty Flamingo cardstock strip, complements of one of the decorative embossing dies in the Stitched Labels Framelits. That collection of framelits also includes the beautiful framed piece with striking detail as well.

JOS Abstract Details Close Up
This photo of the inside of the card shows how perfectly the sentiment in Detailed with Love coordinates with the Abstract Impressions set. And we pull it all together with a matching stamped envelope.
