Graceful Shimmery Dragonfly for The Joy of Sets Challenge #JOSTTT001

I am a member of a most delightful Facebook group called The Joy of Sets. This year, there is a new blog with monthly challenges. Check out their website HERE.  The January challenge #JOSTTT001 is Tic Tac Toe:
jos jan 19 challengeI decided to go right down the middle – Twine, Circle, Blue. I chose two of my favorite shades of blue – Night of Navy and Pool Party. I colored both the Graceful Glass Vellum DSP and plain Vellum with Stampin’ Blends of the same colors. I stamped the Pool Party layer with the Crackle Paint background stamp available in the new 2019 Occasions Catalog. I then punched the large circle out of it with a 2 1/2″ Circle punch and wrapped the twine around the base layer. I took the piece I punched out, turned it around to the unstamped side and punched that with the 2 1/4″ Circle punch so there would be a border of Night of Navy when I glued it back down. I used the same 2 1/4″ size to punch out the Graceful Glass vellum and layered it on top using glue dots.  I like the look of it with that part recessed down and the dragonfly and smaller circle punches popped up…just wish it would photograph better. I made a sweet bow with the twine and adhered it with a glue dot to complete the challenge. I gussied it up with Rhinestones colored with the Dark Pool Party Stampin’ Blends marker and I added Wink of Stella to the dragonfly, smallest vellum circle and the middle of the Graceful Glass design. I am very happy with this card…I might just send it to myself!

Night of Snowflakes with Snowflake Showcase

Snowflake Showcase Banner
Stampin’ Up has a limited time offer of a unique new coordinating suite called Snowflake Showcase available beginning November 1 through 30 or while supplies last. Why is this suite of products unique? Because there are images and dies that can be used for almost any occasion and any time of the year! There are two stamp sets – Snow is Glistening and Happiness Surrounds, along with the coordinating Snowfall Thinlits Dies, Snowflake Trinkets, and Velveteen Paper. Each item is sold separately so you can mix and match!

Today’s card uses very non-traditional colors for Christmas, which is something I seem to lean towards a lot. I made my own Gold Shimmer Spritz by using a small amount of the Gold Shimmer Paint and rubbing alcohol in a Stampin’ Spritzer. Can you believe that coverage? Gorgeous! I feel like the Night of Navy and Gold Shimmer are reminiscent of a sparkling night sky.

Night of Snowflakes
I also spritzed the cardstock that the snowflake die cuts are from, but it’s much more difficult to see it. Maybe because they are so small? Here’s a close up. You can kind of see the shimmer on the Old Olive snowflake. I just can’t get enough of these snowflakes! I’ll have another idea tomorrow using brighter non-traditional colors.  Keep scrolling to see more samples.

Bushel of Healing Hugs

There’s a sweet lady I know that, unfortunately, needed surgery. Before I even sat down at my craft table to create her a card, I knew I wanted to use the Healing Hugs stamp set. I also knew I wanted the rose to be stamped in Blueberry Bushel. I was inspired by a bold card I had spotted online. I decided to pair it with a very pale green for the leaves to help intensify the already brilliant blue. I had just received the Tufted Dynamic Embossing Folder from my beautiful man in brown (UPS driver) earlier that day and thought it would be just lovely as the background texture.

Bushel of Healing Hugs

I colored the Pearl Basic Jewels with my Dark Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends marker. Usually I struggle to remove the jewels with my paper snips or paper piercer, trying to make sure the adhesive on the back comes off with the jewels and doesn’t stick to the paper backing. Let’s talk about this for just a moment. This time, I used the new Take Your Pick tool and it was a dream! This new multipurpose tool includes a piercer, stylus and putty to pick up small items…and a spatula! The spatula slipped right under my pearls and I am tickled pink! You simply MUST get one! Here’s a quick 3 minute YouTube video that shows all the bells and whistles:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nihh0cc81pU&feature=youtu.be

Tranquil Tailored Gentleman

The True Gentleman suite on pages 44 and 45 in the Occasions catalog is an absolutely perfect collection to make dashing masculine cards. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. The richness of the Tranquil Tide with Night of Navy is elegant and smart. The punch makes multiples a snap and the buttons bring it all together. I have made several already and I am just getting started! These cards feature lines I scored using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to add a little extra to the Tranquil Tide Strip. I used Fast Fuse to glue it down due to the added dimension of the button. And the final perfect little detail is adding glue with the Fine Tip Glue Pen to the lenses of the glasses to make them shine like glass. I’ve included a close up photo for you. I am entering this in the Watercooler Wednesday WWC153 – Gail’s Masculine “Anything Goes” challenge. Since it’s a suite that’s new to me, I’m also adding it to the Just Add Ink challenge, too!

A big thank you to my mother, Jean, for gifting this suite to me for my Birthday – I love it!

My Little Sailor

I had a wonderful time seeing Marcus on Friday and Saturday. I’m so thankful he was flying out of Midway instead of O’Hare so we were able to connect with him before his flight out. I made a card that matched the door banner and slipped the card in his carry-on suitcase, along with a letter that Hunter wrote him. I wanted him to find it when he arrived at his new barracks. Darn that airport security! He had to unpack the suitcase for them and he saw them. That’s o.k., though. I told him not to open them until he was in South Carolina.  I’ve already been able to speak to him a couple times (he’s on Liberty today), which makes this transition much easier. I don’t like him being so far away, but at least I can hear his voice now! My layout was inspired by this week’s Pals Paper Arts 316 sketch challenge (PPA316).

Banner for Marcus

Tomorrow is the day! Marcus’ Pass-in-Review from the Navy Boot Camp will be happening at 9:00 CT and I am so ready to see my son!  I’ll have him for the day, so I thought it would be fun to make a celebratory banner for the hotel room.  I was smart and booked a bedroom suite so there’s an actual living room to relax and socialize in.  I wanted to keep the banner CAS (Clean And Simple) since that seems to be the style that Marcus likes. I wanted to keep with the Navy colors, but just couldn’t bring myself to use gold…didn’t seem quite masculine enough. So, Kraft to the rescue!  OMGoodness! I’m so excited!  I will be sure to bring a whole box of tissues! (P.S. Don’t laugh at my shadow on the photo…I laid the banner out on the floor and didn’t realize I was in my own way!)
