Field Journal Watercolor Mallard

I am so excited to share this card with you today. It uses a bunch of products from the new Annual Catalog. I wanted to use the mallard in the Field Journal stamp set, but couldn’t figure out exactly how to lay out the card. I knew I wanted woodsy and a little masculine, so those thoughts were in my head as I paged through the catalog looking at the samples. As soon as I saw the card on page 33, I knew I was going to CASE it! (Copy and Share Everything)

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the mallard onto Watercolor Paper because I knew I’d need to reink and stamp 2 to 3 times to get a good impression since the paper is highly textured. I then squeezed my ink pads while closed, then opened and used the small pool of ink with the Water Painters to color the mallard.

There are 3 new In Colors on this card, too, and they are simply beautiful! The mallard piece is layered onto Cinnamon Cider, I die cut the cattails out of Just Jade, and the ribbon is Bumblebee. The final touch is cropping the ends of the sentiment banner with the new Lovely Labels Pick a Punch. Happiness!

Here’s my card:

Make the World a Better Place

I am sorry that it’s been so long since my last post. I had another ankle surgery and I’ve been down for the count. I am in a monthly card swapping group and needed to get cards made for them. I wanted to use all new goodies from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog. I also wanted to make them encouraging cards…the front sentiment is, “You make the World a better place” and the inside sentiment reads, “Thank you for being part of mine.”  Hunter helped me design the card, including using the wood grain DSP for the globe base and the strip of Early Espresso for the Faux Suede Trim and Antiqued Slide.  I must say…using the Brass Foil Sheets for the globe die cut was awesome – it adds the perfect touch of class! I am in love with all of the new goodies!

Sailing with Faith Interlocking Gate Fold Card

This card is destined for a gentleman that, even though I don’t know him personally, I think needs reminding that people in the world care. I wanted to do a new fun fold that I hadn’t tried yet, so I decided to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) Lisa Curcio’s Interlocking Gate Fold Card. I chose to stamp the anchor from the Sailing Home set because of a beautiful Christian song I love called The Anchor Holds.  The inside is stamped with a sentiment from the set Faith Opens the Door, which is by the company Technique Tuesday. My daughter suggested a clip from the retired Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware kit to help the recipient know how to open the card. That kit is one of the embellishment kits that I seem to always forget that I have.  I also have the Silver, Styled Vanilla, and Aged Copper.  Anyone else remember those?

Come Sail Away Memories & More Quick Card

Have you ever needed to put together a quick card? Perhaps you’ve noticed the Memories & More Card Packs in the Annual Catalog. If not, they are found on page 171. They are designed for quick and easy scrapbooks. But they also make great pieces for quick cards, too. I used the Come Sail Away pack that coordinates with the Come Sail Away Suite on pages 144-145. Just one pre-printed card pack piece, two pieces of cardstock (Balmy Blue & Night of Navy) and one embellishment from the Sail Away Trinkets. No ink or stamps needed!

Garage Joy Fold Birthday Card

I had been eyeing the Classic Garage suite in the Occasions Catalog on pages 42-43 ever since I first perused the catalog last fall. I wanted it…then talked myself out of it…but I wanted it…then talked myself out of it… You get the drift, right?  Tokyo Drift…hahahaha I’m so punny! (That’s for all my Fast & the Furious fans.) Oh my! I digress! Anyway, I thought the Joy Fold layout would be great for this suite and I was right. The gas can is held down by Dimensionals on the right side of it so the yellow DSP layer with the gears and car on it tuck into the side of it to keep the card closed. Super fun, great masculine card. This one is being sent to a special little guy turning 10 this week. I think he’ll like it.

Proud Mosaic Turnabout

I just discovered the stamp company Concord & 9th and their awesome Turnabout stamps. I could never explain them correctly, so I’m just going to give you the link to them:  https://concordand9th.com/collections/turnabouts

This card features the Mosaic Turnabout that I stamped in Blueberry Bushel, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso and Sahara Sand. My friend had shared this photo of birds online and I was inspired by the beautiful colors and just had to make a card with them. And before you comment, yes. I know they are photo-shopped, but it doesn’t matter. Color inspiration can come from anywhere!

Blueberry Cajun Espresso Sand InspirationBlueberry Cajun Espresso Sand
I adore this bold sentiment, which is from the Stampin’ Up Annual catalog set called Friendly Expressions. It is perfect with the Layered Circles Framelits and the Stitched Shapes Framelits and I didn’t feel any other embellishments were necessary. I popped the circle layers up on Dimensionals for added effect. I hope a certain someone living on a certain ship likes it!

Fresh Out, Bro!

As promised, here is the card I slipped in to Marcus’ backpack before he headed back to Virginia. For context, here’s the backstory for you. One of his shipmates says, “Fresh out, bro!” almost every time someone asks him for something. Even if he has that item in his hand, he’ll still say this and not share. Now, all the other shipmates say the same thing to be smarta$$es. This is why I never make him a card ahead of a visit – he always regales me with some kind of story that I can incorporate into a card! Now this endeavor was a little trickier, as I used Word to type up the phrases and had to get the positioning right. It actually only took me two tries. I wasn’t going to attempt to get the “MOM” centered properly on the computer, so I skimmed through all my sets and Thoughtful Banners fit perfectly! This card was meant to be!

Epic Retirement

Today we will take a break from the bright, bold flowers of the Happiness Blooms Designer Series Paper and instead take a look at the awesome background stamp Crackle Paint in the upcoming Occasions catalog. Isn’t it a great backdrop for this card?  A coworker/friend commissioned a male retirement card and told me the retiree liked guitars. I decided to pull out retired stamp sets for the retirement card. See what I did there? Ha Ha Ha! I am too funny! I also decided to use some retired cardstock, ink, and candy dots, too. Don’t let your retired products get dusty, folks! There’s still life left in them! I just love how this card is truly a mix of old, current and upcoming products.

Message for Marcus

I had a wonderful time while Marcus was home last week. As always, his time home flies by way too quickly. He should have his new orders around the end of the summer, so that will most likely be the next time I’ll get to see him. I made this card while he was out with friends and slipped it into his Nintendo Switch case for him to find after he arrived back in upstate New York. Goodbyes are never easy.
