Anchor Greetings

I apologize for the length of time since my last upload. Things have been chaotic around here, to say the least. Life marches on, however, and the clock was ticking down to get my swap cards out. I knew I wanted to participate in the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge. It’s the first time I planned to contribute…the perfect challenge to join in on. It’s the WWC116 – Kath’s Masculine “Anything Goes” Challenge. Unfortunately, the challenge closed yesterday evening. That’s ok, though, because sometimes we just need a little nudging to get our creative juices flowing, right?  So here’s my “Color Challenge” to inspire you:Dapper Garden MarinaSometimes the hardest part of putting a card together is just deciding on colors. I went with a few of my favorites…blues and green. Once I picked my colors, the rest of the card came together quite quickly. It was nice being able to just stamp for an hour.  The die used to cut out the sentiment is from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits collection. It is a perfect fit – with just enough room for an enamel shape! Between the enamel shape and the Burlap Ribbon, they are spot-on embellishments for a masculine card. And I love the finishing touch of adding the anchor to the envelopes, too!

Proud of My Best Guy Ever

I had a wonderful 10 days with my son. It went by way too fast. I’m so proud of all his hard work with Nuclear training with the NAVY and the man he has become. I made this card and slipped it into his suitcase for him to find when he got back to his base. Mission Accomplished!

High Tide Compilation

I just love the High Tide set in the Occasions catalog. It’s perfect for masculine cards…and we all know masculine cards are the most difficult! I just love sponging and the background of the sand, water and sky are perfect for showcasing the sponging technique.  As you can see from the photo, I cut my round stamping sponges into fourths and staple a little handle on top using the coordinating color of cardstock. As a resident of Southwest Michigan, just a few miles from beautiful Lake Michigan, I can tell you right now that this is definitely going to be one of my go-to sets!

Manly Missionary Birthday

There is a woman at my church who is in charge of Missions. She is responsible for not only teaching us and updating us on what is going on in the Church of the Nazarene mission field, but she also keeps in contact with both retired and current missionaries assigned to our district.  She asked if I would make the Birthday and Anniversary cards for both families.  Of course, I am delighted to!  The first card I was tasked to create is a masculine Birthday card.  I used to spend HOURS trying to figure out what to do for “guy cards” (that’s what I like to call them). Fret no more! Stampin’ Up has some wonderful masculine sets – including The Wilderness Awaits, which is the fox you see on the outside, and Wetlands, which I used for the inside sentiment. I like to keep the guy cards simple – a little bit of Linen Thread and nice texture from an embossing folder.  Using Stamping Sponges allows for soft, subtle color for my wild fox.

Birthday Bones

I apologize for my long hiatus. For those that don’t know me personally, my 20 year old son, Marcus, decided to join the U.S. Navy. I have been an emotional wreck seeing him off (that happened last week, July 7) and every time I walk past his bedroom (can’t bring myself to close the door). I need to get out of my funk. What better way than with stamping, right? Sometimes we need to close off our minds and not actually think.   Today’s card does just that. I decided to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) my own card from exactly one year ago from Marcus’ swearing in ceremony last week.  You can see the post from July 7, 2015 here “Camo and Banners”. Hmmm…camouflage. It’s like I had a premonition…
