Tropical Catalog Kick-Off Party Success!

I had an absolute BLAST at my Catalog Kick-Off Party yesterday and I think everyone there enjoyed it, too! I had 13 lovely ladies come and do a make-n-take, check out samples, and enjoy some beyond-delicious Tropical Fruit Salad (see BONUS ROUND below). As soon as I spied the Tropical Escape Suite on pages 120-121 in the Annual Catalog, I just KNEW that was going to be my theme this year. Below are two samples of the cards everyone made. They were able to choose the DSP card layer and DSP square behind the die cut. So much fun!

BONUS ROUND!
Here’s the recipe for my delicious Tropical Fruit Salad I served at the party…everyone raved over it!

TROPICAL FRUIT SALAD

11 mandarin oranges, sectioned
2 cups strawberries, sliced
1 pineapple, cut into bite-size chunks
5 kiwi, sliced
3 mangoes, cut into bite-size chunks

Citrus Poppy Seed Dressing
1 mandarin orange
1 medium lemon
1 lime
1/4 cup agave
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds

Zest the orange, lemon and lime with a zester. Add to small bowl. Cut each in half and squeeze the juice into the measuring cup. (You should get about 1/2 cup juice).  Add agave, ginger and poppy seeds to juice mixture and whisk until combined.  Set aside or place in the refrigerator if serving later.

Prepare remaining fruit and place in a large bowl. Pour dressing on top of fruit about 30 minutes before serving. Gently toss to coat.

Serve and enjoy!
Makes about 12 cups

Celebrate Springtime Butterfly with Brusho

Oh how I wish I could photograph properly – the red on this card is positively VIBRANT! With this one, I used watercolor paper and brushed on a layer of water using my Aqua Painter. Then I sprinkled on the Brusho Crystal Colours in Red and brushed the entire piece with even more water. Pure color saturation! The butterfly is from a new set called Springtime Impressions Thinlits. Using the Precision Base Plate with the Big Shot produces perfect cutting every time. I popped it up using the Mini Dimensionals and the “Celebrate” sentiment, which is glued down with Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive, is in the Celebrate You Thinlits set. Black Faceted Dots give it that little hint of bling.  Mounted on a Thick Whisper White card base so it can handle the weight of the watercolor paper. Simply striking! You simply must see it in person! Come to my Catalog Kick-Off Party on June 23rd!

Shimmery Pumpkin Bird

I am diligently working on samples for my upcoming Catalog Kick-Off Party (June 23) and I just had to share this one now. I usually use blues and violets when I color in birds, but Hunter suggested orange and yellow. This is one of the things I love about crafting – if one person doesn’t think of something, another person will! I am very happy with how this turned out. The Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers work beautifully to color and shade for a more realistic look. The coordinating Birds & Blooms Thinlits make layering everything a breeze. The Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder really makes a bold statement on the layering piece of Old Olive. And the pièce de résistance is the shimmery Wink of Stella on the bird, flowers and leaves!

Here’s a close up of the shimmer Wink of Stella. It’s so hard to capture on film:

And here’s a close up of the Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder. It creates the most lovely, deep impressions. Just a quick spritz of water on your cardstock before you run it through the Big Shot will keep the cardstock from cracking.
