Colorful Smiles

I am so glad I decided to get the Color Theory Suite on pages 146-147 of the new 2017-2018 Annual Catalog. The colors and designs evoke a colorful calmness. So what better way to send a little Thank You note than with a relaxing drink and a lounge chair? Hunter selected Berry Burst and I decided to add a touch of Crushed Curry pop of Basic Black and I think it’s a lovely color combo! The new Mini Dimensionals are awesome – I used one little one on each drink to pop it up. So nice to not have to cut a regular size Dimensional into smaller pieces!

Shimmery Watercolor Butterfly

I decided to try something different today. I watercolored Flirty Flamingo ink onto Shimmery White cardstock. I used an Aqua Painter to first cover the entire piece of cardstock in water.  Then I brushed the ink in a sweeping motion onto the cardstock. After it dried, I die cut the butterflies. They turned out exactly as I hoped!  If you decide to give it a try, be sure to use a shim for your Big Shot sandwich – the Shimmery White must be slightly thinner than the standard cardstock. My sandwich was (from bottom to top): Magnetic Platform, Precision Base Plate, cardstock, die, shim (scrap piece of cardstock), standard cutting pad.

Shimmery Butterfly

I wish you could see it in real life. You can see the shimmer on the whole butterfly – as if it was covered in Wink of Stella. Here’s a close up that might help a little:

So, what do you think? I’ll definitely use this technique again!

With Sympathy

I dislike having to make sympathy cards and, unfortunately, I’ve had to make quite a lot lately.  Today’s card uses the sponging technique to provide a soft, nature-styled background for the wildflowers stamp in Serene Silhouettes.  To create the flagged ends on the sentiment, I placed a small square sticky note on the ends, just the way I wanted it cut and then used the square punch.
