Birthday Balloons for Mo

My oldest child turned 22 last week. What a sobering thought! Just because he’s grown, though, doesn’t mean he can’t get a fun Birthday card, right? It’s so hard to strike a balance of masculine yet fun, but the Celebrations Duo embossing folder that says “HAPPY” looks like a perfect fit! It’s hard to tell, but those circles you see are not all layers. I punched out a 2 ½” circle from the Tangerine Tango layer, embossed it, then glued it on. This allows the Early Espresso to show through from the card base. The Daffodil Delight is punched out with the 2” Circle Punch and glued inside that. This keeps the card from becoming too bulky. It also conserves cardstock, as I now have a 2 ½” circle of Tangerine Tango that I can use on another card! Bonus tip: I cut the “Happy Birthday” sentiment apart so I could easily stamp just “Birthday” on the front.

Pain Stinks

The Foxy Friends stamp set and coordinating Fox Builder punch are so versatile and makes it easy to put together animals other than just foxes. A gentleman at my church has missed the past two Sunday services because he is experiencing bad hip and leg pain. I want him to know he’s missed and that I’m praying for complete healing. I thought a fun card would give him a chuckle, so the Here for You set saves the day with the perfect sentiment for a skunk! It’s hard to tell, but both the skunk and sentiment banners are popped up on dimensionals.  The inside of the card is stamped with the sentiment, “So sorry you’re hurting. Hang in there.”

Be Bold – Class of 2018

I always make cards for my children for their first day of school. It’s surreal knowing my youngest is beginning her last year of High School. Many people say, “Where did the time go?” To quote the end of a poem my sister wrote back in 1988 during her Senior year, “WHY did the time go?” I love you, Hunter, and hope your Senior year is a fantastic, amazing experience!

This is the first card I’ve made using the Eclipse Lettering Technique. I love the look of it. I tried capturing photos where you can see the “shadow” by having the Basic Black behind it. I inked up the “be” from a stamp in the Colorful Seasons set that says “beautiful”. The water under the girl is from High Tide. I die cut the letters first, then put them back together like a puzzle, gluing down the inside pieces first, then popping the letters up with mini-dimensionals. By die cutting first, I was able to stamp the girl right where I wanted her to be.

Perfect Plum Painted Harvest

I can’t get enough of this Painted Harvest stamp set! It is so beyond versatile and I really like using them as my own “Designer Series Paper” for backgrounds. Since the last card I made using this set was super bright, I thought I’d tone it down a little and focus on purples. So happy with this!

Painted Harvest – More Than Sunflowers

I was so excited perusing through the new Holiday Catalog…and immediately fell in love with the gorgeous hand-painted style of the sunflowers in the Painted Harvest set. I simply HAD to have it! Imagine my happiness when I started seeing people posting samples with non-traditional colors!?! I decided to try a combo using bright, fun, summery colors…and I am thrilled with the final outcome!

After stamping my flowers, I began to assemble my card. To my surprise, I realized I used colors in which I did not have any matching ribbon. So, I pulled an oldie-but-goodie technique out of the bag and colored the White Bakers Twine with Berry Burst ink! I stamped a flower in both the corner of the envelope and the inside layer. Try not to smile when you look at these flowers!

Happy New House!

My oldest daughter and her fiancé just bought a house. Sniff Sniff! My Doodlebug is adulting! I had already made them a congrats card using items from a previous Paper Pumpkin kit, but my mother asked me to make one for her to give as well. In the City* Hostess set to the rescue! I knew I wanted to do a line of houses and feature something that would put the focus on just one. At first, I thought about using a sunburst behind one house, but Hunter had a much better idea. She said, “Make all the houses gray, except for Syd’s! And make hers yellow, since that’s close to the color of the new house!”  So…as any good mother would do, I listened to the advice of my youngest daughter and here’s the final card. Super cute with those new Glitter Enamel Dots, too!
